Southwell Heritage Trust (SHT) was incorporated as a private company limited by guarantee in January 2010, and is a registered charity. The trustees and members of the Trust are drawn from various heritage groups, the town council, and other interested parties. The objects are:

To secure the preservation and protection of features of special historic interest for the benefit of the nation
To facilitate and enhance public knowledge, appreciation and enjoyment of the rich heritage of Southwell
To establish and maintain a heritage centre in Southwell

In furtherance of the objectives of the charity the Trust is the promoter of the Discovering Southwell project.
